Today we are going to practice meditation and mantra.
Welcome!
In many ways’ mantra is my first love of meditation, of yoga in fact!  If I hadn’t found mantra practice with Maya Fiennes I probably would never have stuck with yoga.

I had discovered meditation at a tarot reading course I was on and realised how much I needed it.  So, I did an internet search for ‘relaxation meditation’ and found a woman called Maya had a relaxation yoga and meditation DVD on Amazon.  Popped it in my basket and have never looked back!
Years ago, there was a yoga studio in Camden Market called The Alchemy Centre, it was without a doubt my all-time favorite yoga space.  Maya had not long released her first DVD and did occasional workshops at Alchemy when she was in the UK.  Whenever she did, I would finish work in the City and head over to Camden!
One workshop Maya led us in a mantra practice, I Am I Am, performed by Seal (Maya usually uses her own music, she is a very talented lady!)  I have not been able to find the extended Seal version she used and a few years ago found the one we will use today, which I hope you will agree is beautiful.   Sat Kartar, I Am, I Am, from her album Flow.
Why do we practice mantra?
By using sound to create a different vibration to that which previously existed, we are able to balance, heal, and re-write our destiny.
To put it simply, mantras are sound currents used to rearrange our habitual patterns and thoughts. The sounds access patterns vibrating at lower frequencies, and establish new habits by replacing the old frequency with the new higher frequency which we have consciously chosen.
The best approach with mantra is just to give it a go, mumble along or give it some welly, start with a few minutes and build up to 11 minutes if and when you want to.  Just do your best.  There is literally a mantra for everything so if this one isn’t right for you let me help you find one that is and pop me a comment below.
I have found the I Am I Am mantra to be incredibly grounding and calming.  Whenever there in conflict going on in my life or I am unsure where I am heading or what I am doing I come back to this practice.
The Mantrapedia on www.spiritvoyage.com explains this mantra…
“This mantra connects the finite and Infinite identities. The first “I AM” emphasizes the finite sense of self. The second “I AM” emphasizes the impersonal and transcendent sense of the Self. All real mantras blend this polarity of the Infinite and finite in their internal structure and design. If you only say the first “I AM” the mind will automatically try to answer, “I am what?” This sends the mind on a search through all the categories and roles that hold the finite identities. If you immediately say the second part of the mantra, “I AM” the thought becomes ” I AM What I AM” To be what you are is the essence of truth and will lead you to the nature of Reality.
NOTE: “This mantra has been chanted by Wiccans, Rosecrucians, Magicians, Jews, Hip hop Artists, Yogis, and many other groups.””
If you are working towards breaking a habit, or creating a new positive pattern in your life then working with a connected mantra for 40 days is advised.  Give it a go, it might just change your life, it did mine! practicing this for a 40-day practice this will be really useful whilst you get the hang of it!
As it happens, I started a 40 day practice of this a few days ago, the video I am sharing is of my actual practice today – I hope that you join me and enjoy it.  There is no right or wrong way, even if you just wish to sit with me for the 11 minutes!
I hope you enjoy it!  Let me know what you think by popping me a message below!

Notes about this video…
This is my personal practice – it is not ‘staged’, the sound isnt as clear as if I had just put the song audio over my video.  It’s real!  I invite you just to join me for my practice – through space and time, sing along with me. Or just sit and be with me.  It is open invitation and you are very welcome here.
If you enjoy it and you like this music it is available from the Spirit Voyage website, and I can send you a link if you pop me a message.
