![]() Stress. I believe ‘shutting down’ from friends, loved ones, and my network had the biggest detrimental impact on how I used to cope with stress, and how quickly I was able to process and deal with the stress. Whilst relationships had caused my stress, it seemed clear the best solution to my stress was to cultivate positive relationships with others. I enforced a no meanies policy in my life. I don’t tolerate unkindness or negativity being enforced upon me. I simply move on and don’t engage in it. I focus on positive relationships. Why? What if changing your job is not so easy? What if you have to work with a bully? Or live with someone really selfish? What if some of your friends and family don’t get you? Sometimes we cannot simply walk away from people who bring stress to our door. However, there are many opportunities to meet new people, cultivate new relationships, and build meaningful and supportive relationships to counterbalance that stress. Positive relationships allow us to connect with others on a very basic human level. We laugh, play, swap ideas, get advice, share stories, grow in confidence and trust, and open up with. All of these things reduce anxiety and stress. And then, when stress comes knocking again, we can fall back on our strong network knowing we are supported with love and kindness without judgement. see you next week! Charlotte

I feel stress in my shoulders, back and head...and then I get headaches like I have today, and then I take another paracetomol and codeine...I know I need to deal with this!

Great post! I actually tend to deal with stress by shutting down in a positive way, or at least it feels positive, hehehe. I take some alone time, I ditch all of my not super important responsibilities for the day and I just lounge around doing a whole lot of nothing. I guess a normal person would call it relaxing, but it feels like I'm shutting down the parts of me, like the business aspect, or the best friend aspect, that are overloading my system. I'm usually back to my happy self in a day or two!

Hi Charlotte. this is a brilliant post. It could not have come at a better time for me for various reasons. You hit the nail right on the head when you said that building a strong network of supportive people and asking for the help when you need it is crucial to helping deal with the inevitable stress that most of us live with. Thanks you so much. Look forward to reading more of your posts.

Oh, I so recognise this. I used to have a tendency to disappear, until one of my friends told me she'd kill me if I did it again! :-D So now I make an effort to reach out and tell people when I'm getting stressed...and I haven't gone down the stress rabbit hole since I did that. x
