Stress is an inevitable part of life. It can be caused by negative occurrences outside of our control; grief, disappointment, finances, job security. But stress can also be a side effect of positive life transitions; moving on, re-training, starting a new relationship.
The trick is to cut out (or slay) the harmful, fire breathing stress. By raising our awareness of the warning signs we can move away from those people or situations and thereby tame the dragon.
Because let’s get real. Life is full of adventures and detours and ups and downs. However much you try to avoid it, stress is a natural chemical bodily reaction. We can learn to manage it well in order to stop it ruining our health and our lives. And learning to manage it will help us feel confident enough to not shy away from challenges that are “worth the stress”. First look at where our stress is coming from. Is there a clear route out of the stress? Can we counterbalance it with pleasure to minimise the focus we put on the negative? Are we able to explore techniques and practises that can help us cope better and maintain a calmer perspective whilst we restructure and make the necessary changes? There is no need to choose to live with a crazy angry beast, feeding it every day with our anxiety and feelings of powerlessness. It is totally within all of our control to tame the beast. Where could you start today? Charlotte
