Having spent about three years skirting around actually doing it, I finally did it. DELETE!
There always seemed a list of reasons to stay. But like all dysfunctional relationships with poor boundaries it kept nagging me. I knew it was no good for me and my addictive tendencies.
A friend and ally sent me a link for a blog post
How to Transfer Your Facebook Photos and Videos to Another Service (pcmag.com) which I then sat on for a few months before finally actually doing it.
Knowing that I have not lost photos etc is a comfort. The BIGGEST comfort is knowing that I have let go of something that was dragging me.
The hours I have spent on Facebook have been a mixed bag. Friends, work, sharing, promoting, staying in contact, blocking, and in between all of the useful interesting things have been a great deal of hours scrolling and looking at things that have brought nothing necessary or useful or positive to my ecology. I limited it, re-jigged it, had breaks from it. But still it didn't quite work for me any more.
And I include my business page in this. It just hasn't worked like it used to for some time. And we are constantly being told we need to use social media and networking for our small businesses. I am still on Instagram but I don't believe Facebook is the be-all-and-end-all for small businesses.
So, I let it go. And it feels blooming marvellous! Have I missed it? Nope. Not one bit. It feels like I have decluttered a HUGE thing from my life. Sat there in the corner even when I am not using it, just taking up space. Gone!
What would a feel-good step in de-cluttering look and feel like to you?
Is there something you would like to let go of? It might not be Facebook. It might seem small and inconsequential in the bigger picture of your life. But it's nagging you, or piquing your interest, none the less.
Are you curious to see what would happen if you gave it up?
Is it safe for you to give it up?
What could you gain?
What could you lose?
Will you do it? Now? Or later?
See you soon!
Lots of love - Charlotte xx
