"I have learned over the years that when one's mind is made up, this diminishes fear; knowing what must be done does away with fear". Rosa Parks
Facing our fears teaches us stuff, important, life changing stuff! Each tough situation give us confidence.
I can look back over the last 8 years of my life and divide it up between my unhappy and my happy phases. They all share the same pattern. I can see when I was fearful to make changes I stagnated, procrastinated and was unhappy. When I challenged myself and faced my fears I experienced huge relief, I felt happier.
Using what I had learnt from personal experience, yoga practice and some coaching techniques, I now do this one simple thing whenever I feel fear rising.
Fear held me back from pursuing things in life that I really wanted, I have learnt that facing my fears allows me to embrace life and spontaneity.
Where is fear holding you back?
What one action can you take, today, that is going to help you challenge that fear? What one action can you take, today, that is going to help you achieve something you really want to do but have been too worried about?
Good luck! See you next week.

Today, 20 March 2013, is the UN’s International Day of Happiness as agreed in an official UN Resolution last summer.
In my last blog, I explained The UN’s Resolution states, among other points, it is “Recognizing the need for a more inclusive, equitable and balanced approach to economic growth that promotes sustainable development, poverty eradication, happiness and the well-being of all peoples.” These have become known as the Four Pillars.
I live in the UK and today our chancellor is announcing the Governments Annual Budget. On a day when we are picking over our national finances I wanted to look a bit closer at the pillar of poverty eradication, and happiness and wealth.
Last July all 193 member states of the United Nations agreed to adopt new resolution 66/281 International Day Of Happiness. The 20 March has been chosen as the day which will be used to mark the annual event.
In today’s 24 hour news channel and celebrity magazine culture it is easy for us all to get swept up in sensationalist and negative news stories. Stories that pick over wounds and scabs, or report irrelevant and uninteresting ‘news’ in order to fill air time and pages.
Isn't it strange how this hugely positive international agreement has had virtually NO press?! I believe sharing good news and positivity can have a direct impact in how good we feel. When we share good news it has a impact on those around us.
If our news and media don’t want to spread these vibes, then each one of us can take responsibility and do it ourselves. I believe in the International Day Of Happiness.
If you would like to know more about this day and become involved may I suggest that this website www.dayofhappiness.net is a good place to start!
With Love and Light

So many hopes and dreams began manifesting when I began practicing yoga. A coincidence? I think not!
I believe that you too can break through your barriers, and clear the way for more positive energy and abundance to flow into your life.
One thing yoga has taught me is that It is an act of self-love to sit with your pain and address it with honesty. It is empowering. It is healing.
In my short video I want to share with you one of my favourite Yoga Sutras that discusses this subject....
What can you do to spring clean some of your mental cobwebs away?
What thoughts are you allowing to cause you suffering? Are you being selfish or miserable and if yes – how and when? Are you able to bring happiness to others? Or can you selfishly refuse to disturb your own peace?
P.S - The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali (tr. Swami Satchidananda) can be purchased at any good yoga book shop...or Amazon - the ISBN of my copy is 9780932040381 . I ordered mine from www.yogamatters.com
Yes - I am a day late, but better late than never I say! www.happinessbackpack.com 's weekly gratitude reminder is something I looked forward to doing, and then realised it was Friday!
Today (and yesterday) I am grateful for
